IV. POND

The pond habitat is next. The pond can be considered a wildlife nursery. Young mammals, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and insects spend the earlier part of their lives in an area like this. These areas flood periodically therefore making it a healthy environment. Flooding is important to maintaining a healthy wetlands ecosystem. Many species benefit from a system like this.

Sometimes a coat of algae grows on top of the pond.  Other ponds might have lily pads or other water plants growing in them.  These aquatic plants provide shelter for amphibians and fish, while adding oxygen to the water and decreasing turbidity.

Let's go back to the beginning, Mixed Evergreen and Deciduous.
