About the Artist. Art is a way of life for Suzanne Stevens of Virginia Beach. Suzanne was born in Indiana and raised in Miami. She realized her artistic talent early on, and has spent her life developing it. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Painting and Drawing from Florida State University, and later received her Master of Arts in Painting and Drawing from Goddard College in Vermont. A resident of Virginia Beach for the past twenty five years, Suzanne has been able to share her talents by teaching part time at the Contemporary Art Center and from her home for the past twenty one years. Her work has earned her many awards and distinctions, including Painter of the Year and Draftsman of the Year while in college. She was included in Who’s Who in America, 1998 and Who’s Who of American Women, 1997-98. This publication annually recognizes the most outstanding people in the country. Her original pastel "Full Moon Rising" was selected for the Virginia Waterfront International Arts Festival poster in 2000. Suzanne is happiest when she is outdoors. Her genuine concern for the earth and its protection is evident in her artwork. She uses oil, pastel, charcoal, and water color to capture lots of images. She also uses landscape and figure drawing. She spends a lot of time in Back Bay and Mackay Island in the fall working outdoors with nature. Most of her work is in series, such as the "Refuge Series" and "Snow Geese Series". Funding for the new BBRF poster has come from KBS, INC., member Bill Paulette and Mid Eastern Builders, Inc., member George Clarke. These are two innovative successful entrepreneurs are providing BBRF with the opportunity to generate funds through the beauty of Back Bay as interpreted through Suzanne Steven’s art. Thank you now and in the future.
