Back Bay Tram Summer Schedule

BBRF volunteers have made this one of our most successful projects. Thousands of passengers have taken the ride which leaves from the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge parking lot and follows the west dike trail, traveling to Virginia's False Cape State Park.

The Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge and False Cape State Park are located south of Sandbridge in Virginia Beach. The Refuge is a key resting and feeding location for various migratory and resident birds along the Atlantic Flyway. The Refuge is open from dawn to dusk daily.

Tram Schedule: The summer tram runs every day starting on June 1st 2010. The tram will embark from the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Contact Station, located at the end of Sandpiper Road in Virginia Beach. Trams will no longer embark from Little Island City Park, as has been the case in past years.

Trams will depart from the Refuge at 9:00 a.m. and return no later than 1:00 p.m. each day. Tram capacity is limited to 24 passengers on a first-come-first-served basis. There are no reservations.

In addition to the tram fee, the daily Refuge entrance fee or one of several valid seasonal/yearly passes is required.

The cost to ride is $8 for adults, $6 for children under 12 and seniors over 62. Riders under age 3 are free. Dress according to the weather, wear good walking shoes, bring a bag lunch or snacks, and something to drink. Don’t forget sunscreen and insect repellant, you will need them in warmer weather. Cameras and binoculars would also be useful. For more information about the tram program call the refuge at (757)721-2412, or the Back Bay Restoration Foundation at (757)721-7666.
