What is a tram tour?
You'll view the coastal barrier habitat of Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge from covered, open sided trams as you are transported to one of Virginia's most remote parks. Passing through the refuge, you may see one of the nearly 300 bird species that have been sighted in the Refuge. Along the unpaved dike trails you will have close-up viewing of other wildlife including feral hogs, snakes, turtles, river otters, foxes, and deer.
You'll pass through the dunes and marshes of the Refuge into the scrub and maritime forest of False Cape State Park. Your two hour stay in the park allows for a trip to the beach, time to explore the trails of False Cape and its new visitor center, or to get a view of beautiful Back Bay.
Access to False Cape State Park is otherwise limited to bicyclists or hikers on the 4.5 mile trail from the Refuge to the State Park.
