2011 Photo Contest

Contest Description: THE 2011 CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED BY OCT. 1, 2011.

A picture speaks a thousand words. Let your camera show your support and appreciation of Back Bay by entering Back Bay Restoration Foundation’s first annual Photo Contest!

We invite you to enter your most striking Back Bay nature photo. We are looking for digital photographs that represent the beauty and diversity of Back Bay, its watershed, and associated flora and fauna.

The winning photo will be featured on the cover of BBRF’s 2012 Nature Calendar and on our website. The top 12 photos will be featured in our annual calendar. The calendar will be sold as a fundraiser to support BBRF’s mission to preserve, protect, and improve Back Bay and its watershed through education, stewardship, and outreach.

How to Enter:

Upload to Facebook on Back Bay Restoration Foundation’s group page (click here): be sure to indicate that the photo is for the photo contest, where the photo was taken, and include a caption as described in the contest rules.

Send via email: attach your photo (as JPG or JPEG file) to an email and send to mary.tilton@bbrf.org. In the subject of the email, indicate the photo is for the BBRF’s 2011 photo contest. Emails must also contain a descriptive caption (see contest rules).

Your original photographs must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. (EST), on September 12, 2011 to be eligible for the contest. Winners will be notified via email or phone by October 1, 2011.

Contest Rules:

To be considered eligible, the photograph must depict Back Bay, its watershed, and associated flora and fauna. Photographs that are not applicable to this geographic area will not be considered. Any photograph that indicates harassment of wildlife or deemed to endanger the environment, wildlife, or any person will be disqualified. Each photographer is allowed to submit no more than 5 photographs. Children under age 18 must have parental permission to participate and must be able to produce this permission upon request.

All photographs must be digital and have a high quality resolution (3 megapixels or better). Photographs must be in JPG or JPEG format. Photographs are not to be digitally altered beyond standard optimizations such as cropping, dust removal, and reasonable adjustments to exposure, brightness, and color.

All photographs must be accompanied by a caption that includes the name of the photographer(s), location of the photograph, and adequately describe any subjects in the photograph (name(s), species description, etc.).   The entrant is responsible for obtaining any necessary third-party releases or copyrights of such subjects if appropriate. If selected as a winning entry, the entrant must be able to provide such releases to BBRF upon request. The caption should also include biographical information about the photographer, including name, city and state of residence, and contact information (email and/or phone number, whichever is preferred method of contact).

Entrants retain ownership over their photographs, but by entering the contest give BBRF the permission to use these photographs for our promotional activities including, but not limited to, our website, educational and marketing publications, and fundraising material.

BBRF’s Executive Director, Board of Directors, and any other judges appointed by the aforementioned individuals, will evaluate all submissions based on originality, composition, overall impact, and most striking representation of Back Bay and its watershed. During judging, photographs will remain anonymous (i.e. photographer’s name will not visible on the photograph) so that selection remains unbiased. Employees of BBRF are not eligible for the competition. All decisions made by the judges are final.
